How To Contour - And Don't Forget to Highlight And Blush!

November 04, 2018

Contouring and highlighting go together like Cheese and Jam!

Contouring is when you use a matte (read: not shimmery) powder, liquid, cream, or stick product that's a few shades darker than your skin tone to shade areas you'd like to define or reshape, like your nose, forehead, chin, and cheekbones.

Already feel lost in a sea of contouring? Don't stress! We are here to make it easier. It basically comes down to the shape of your face - and then everything works out. But by no means must you stick to the below tips (makeup has no rules!), they're only here to serve as a guide. Seven different face shapes = 7 different contouring plans.

For Heart Shaped Faces

Where to contour (see picture below):

  • Along the sides of your forehead and temples to create balance between the upper and lower half of your face.
  • The area directly below your cheekbones, starting from your ears to the middle of your cheeks.
  • The very tip of your chin.

    Where to highlight:

    • Under your eyes in an upside-down triangle shape to brighten them.
    • In the middle of your forehead and on the center of your chin.

    For Round Shaped Faces:

    Where to contour:

    • On the sides of your forehead and along your temples.
    • The area below your cheekbones, starting from your ears to the middle of your cheeks, and then curving down to your jawline.

                    Some Extra Tips:

                    1) Highlighting is so lovely but don't overdo it - keep it simple and light

                    2) Hold your brush lightly in your hand at all times

                    3) BLEND - this is the most important thing to remember - use one of our Bevel Sponges for that

                    4) For cream products (Like the Hean Contour Kit) use your fingers

                    5) Use a Fan brush for a powder highlighter
